ANNUAL PUBLIC LECTURE ON ECONOMICS AND PHILOSOPHY IN MEMORY OF KOSMAS PSYCHOPAIDIS

A few words on UADPhilEcon's debt to Kosmas Psychopaidis:

When UADPhilEcon was being set up, back in 2002/3, Kosmas played a pivotal role in the design of its structure and character. He sat on every important committee (including the Admissions' Committee that selected our first two intakes) and was instrumental in determining the philosophy and guiding principles of our program.

During the first semester of 2004/5, he led a second year class in Economic Philosophy and Methodology; a class that was left bereft when he passed away suddenly in December 2004. It was on that bleak, wintery afternoon (Wednesday 15th of December 2004), when our students and staff attended the funeral of one of our Department's finest scholars, that the idea came to us to mark his passing with an annual public lecture on Economics and Philosophy. Kosmas Psychopaidis graced the position of Professor of Philosophy in our Department for many years.

We cannot find words to express our sadness at his loss. The decision by UADPhilEcon and The Sakis Karagiorgas Foundation to found an Annual Lecture in Kosmas' memory, and on his favourite subject, is a mere attempt to lessen that sadness.
